Our first visit to Diggerland this week and it was pretty exciting!  You need to pre-book tickets but there is no time slot so you can arrive any time after 10am.  We got there about 10.45am and had no problems parking near the entrance, however there was a 20 minute queue to get in.  Tickets cost £19.95 each (kids aswell although under 90cm tall is free) but it is a theme park so expect it to be a little pricey.  The only extras were the dodgems which you had to purchase tokens for £1 a ride and there were a few coin operated diggers and cars which were also £1.  The indoor play areas are still closed due to Covid.

Baring in mind it is summer holidays the queues weren't terrible, when there were several of the same machines it was obviously quicker.  They also had to clean everything down after every go which took some time.  The biggest diggers I think there were only 4, the queue took too long and we abandoned it but there were other similar ones to try with shorter queues.  We bought ice creams for one queue so the kids had something to do while they waited.

On the website it recommended wellies and I assume on a wet day certain areas could get pretty muddy, but it was dry for us and trainers would have been fine as the areas all around the rides are paved.  When you go on you can sometimes put your bag in or at the side of the machine, others we had to leave it near the staff member, but that is at your own risk.  I do think lockers would have been useful.

It is important to check the height of your small people before you book as it dictates what they can go on and you don't want them to be disappointed.  Oliver fell into the 100 - 110cm category which meant he could pretty much go on everything, with a few exceptions, but he couldn't actually drive/operate, so that was down to me.  To be honest most of the time he thought he was controlling stuff anyway even though it was me, so it didn't really matter.   We made a good team! I was a little nervous about driving some of it but I actually really enjoyed giving it all a go.

The cafe I didn't use myself but there were picnic benches to eat packed lunch.  If you time it right when alot of people are lunching the queues went down.  There is of course a shop through the exit but in fact it wasn't silly expensive, Oliver ended up with a dumper truck for £5.99 and hasn't stopped playing with it since so we got our moneys worth!

Definatley a fun day out, my guess is term time would be so much quieter but the older the child the more they can do so really you are limited to school holidays unless you are home schooling.  Motorway all the way, it took about 45 mins - 1 hr from Coulsdon.

Give it a go, its certainly something completely different!
