So when we went to the British Wildlife Centre I know that we did not see it at its best because I foolishly chose to come on a very hot day.  Disappointingly but understandably the animals were all hiding in their burrows or away in shaded areas out of sight, so we did not see many animals.  It was such a shame because each enclosure Oliver would say 'what's this?' and I'd be like 'well...somewhere in there is an... but he's sleeping'.  This aside I can see that this is a good place to go on a normal day probably best in autumn when its nice and cool.  Its full of our local wildlife which I think is a nice change for kids to learn about.  Its fine teaching them about elephants and giraffes but to see and learn about animals from the English countryside is great!

They did have lots of scheduled talks and feedings so this was where we did see a few animals such as foxes, a hedgehog and otters.  They also have lots of deer and an indoor area with mice, rats, bees and other small creatures.

I'm definitely going to go back at some point as our visit could have been so much better.  The poor animals were sensibly tucked away out of the heat (where we should have been ).  The café was very basic, had I known I would have brought packed lunch as I find paying for a standard sandwhich in a packet and beans on toast a little annoying when I could have made it at home so much cheaper.  But the point is it is there for convenience! Nice little gift shop though where we got a few different bits for Oliver for his animal collection - a snail and a hedgehog, he was very happy with that!

Large free car park and the whole place is buggy friendly to walk around. Entrance fee is £11.50 for adults, £8.50 children and under 3s free.  Check the website for opening times as they are usually only open to the public on weekends or in the holidays.  Another interesting place to try for a day out and not too far either!
